Lower Eyelid Bag Removal Surgery

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is called lower lid blepharoplasty in medical terms.

The aim of this surgery is to enhance the appearance of your under-eye or lower eyelid region by removing the eyelid bags on your lower lids. Lower blepharoplasty is also recommended for people having fat bulges, sagging skin, and wrinkles around their lower lids.

What are the Symptoms?

When Do You Need Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty?

Lower blepharoplasty surgery is a suggested procedure for people troubled by their appearance due to droopy or baggy lower eyelids.

Since each patient has distinct positive & negative features, Dr. Prerana Tahiliani and Dr. Adit Gupta carry out a thorough analysis to develop a unique surgical plan for every patient. The emphasis is on accentuating the patient’s inherent positive features, minimizing the negative ones.

The surgery can be used to sculpt fatty tissues, tighten the skin & muscle, fill the hollow region around the lower lids, as well as lift the sagging cheeks.

Procedure

Lower eyelid bag removal is performed using local anesthesia. In many cases, oculoplastic surgeons also resort to sedation for eliminating the anxiety in patients. The surgery typically takes about one to 1.5 hours.

What to expect?

Patients experience some level of bruising, soreness, and swelling after the procedure. But there is no severe pain in most of the cases. Using ice packs can give a lot of relief. Besides, prescription antibiotic eye drops help provide comfort and healing.

The good thing is that the surgery mostly doesn’t require stitches. And if stitches are needed, dissolving stitches are used.

In some cases, adjunctive procedures, such as laser resurfacing and chemical peels, may need to be carried out to address skin changes.

In most of the cases, this type of eyelid surgery may not be a medical requirement. And thus, it is typically not covered under insurance. You can discuss the fees and payment structures with our doctors.

Time for recovery

Most of the patients undergoing lower blepharoplasty take about 10 days – 14 days to resume work. It is advisable to not perform strenuous activities for at least two weeks after the surgery. Also, wearing contact lenses should be avoided for a week post the procedure, given sore or itchy eyes.
