Ptosis Surgery at MEPS

PTOSIS

The condition of drooping upper eyelids is known as Ptosis in medical science. It can occur due to swollen lid, damage in the nerve controlling your eyelid muscles, muscle strength issues, underlying medical issues, stroke, neurological disorders, family history, or severe fatigue. Ptosis is also a congenital disease (present at birth).

Our expert oculoplastic surgeons at MEPS, Dr. Prerna Tahiliani & Dr. Adit Gupta, perform ptosis correction & ptosis repair surgery using a laser-assisted technique.

What are the Symptoms?

When Do You Need Ptosis Surgery?

You may need to undergo Ptosis Surgery if you experience partly obstructed vision, completely blocked vision, or you have to lift your eyelids with your fingers or through forehead muscles for a clear sight. The surgery, also referred to as droopy eyelid surgery, helps elevate your upper eyelid for vision restoration. M.E.P.S provides the best Ptosis Surgery in Mumbai.

Procedure

Ptosis correction surgery at MEPS is done using local anesthesia. Sedation is also used, if needed. The surgical procedure helps tighten the levator muscle, lifting the affected eyelid back to its normal, desired position. In some severe cases, a silicone sling is used for strengthening the eyelid muscle.

Post the surgery, ointment is applied to the eyes, and ice packs are used for comfort.

Recently, the MEPS team has introduced Scarless Ptosis Surgery for correcting mild to moderate droopy eyelids. In this surgery, we tighten the loose muscle from the back of the eyelid to avert a skin cut.

What to expect?

After the surgery, patients tend to experience some bruising and swelling. Elevating the head and using cold compresses help relieve discomfort.

It takes approximately a week after the surgery to remove sutures/stitches. It is advised to keep the wound clean post a ptosis repair surgery.

Time for recovery

The swelling post droopy eyelid surgery takes around a week to heal. Though complete healing takes about a month, patients are able to resume work within a week after the surgery.

Our team of expert cosmetic eyelid surgeons, Dr. Adit Gupta and Dr. Prerana Tahiliani, see patients post weeks 1 and 6 of the surgery to monitor their progress.

Please note that one must avoid yoga, swimming, or any type of heavy exercise for at least two weeks after the ptosis surgery to allow proper healing.
